BOB H. GUARENTE
1941 – 2019
SPRINGFIELD, MA – Robert Henry Guarente, 77, a longtime hockey official heard the final whistle on Saturday July 13, 2019. Bob was born in Cambridge, MA on December 4, 1941 a son of the late Francis P. and Mary (Hanson) Guarente. He served honorably in the US Navy during the Vietnam War era and was stationed in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis of October 1962. He worked as a salesman in the trucking industry for many years. Along with boating on his beloved Sea Ray named “ Bobkat” he had a passion for ice hockey and worked as an Off Ice Official for over 47 years primarily with the Hartford Whalers and the Wolfpack. His genuine, dependable and trustworthy character was a welcome addition to the game where he devoted much time and effort. He could always be counted on for a story or two (LOL)..….. maybe more, and his humor was infectious and will leave lasting memories for all. He married the love of his life, Joan (Learned) Guarente on March 7, 1965 and the couple celebrated over 54 years in love and happiness. Bob was very proud of his two children, Bobby Guarente, Jr and his wife Margie of Holyoke and Kathy Ayvazian and her husband Brett of Carlisle, PA. Pappa was blessed to have so much time with his grandchildren, Brittanie Moro of Springfield; Jessica Moro of Enfield; Julie, Allie and Kristen Guarente all of Holyoke; Rylee Ayvazian of PA and his great granddaughters, Emerald and Evalina. Bob also leaves behind his brother Greg Guarente of Revere; his half- brother, Francis “Chip” Guarente of Utah and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends especially his lifelong friends Jim and Pat Kearnes of Springfield. Visiting hours for Bob will be held on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 4-7PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
