LYDIA M. MEDINA
HOLYOKE- Lydia Medina, 68, of Holyoke, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2018. She was born in Utuado, Puerto Rico on April 9, 1950, a daughter of the late Angel Medina and Josefina Rivera. She worked as a tobacco picker for many years. Lydia enjoyed playing cards, scratch tickets, and flowers, most especially roses. She was a strong and courageous woman, a breast cancer survivor of twenty years who, with joyous spirit and zest for life, raised five children. She will be dearly missed by her life partner of 28 years, Francisco Gonzalez; her children, Jose and his wife Gretchen; Mary Luz and her husband Luis; Patricia; Willie and his wife Monica and Herminio and his wife Maryelis. Lydia leaves behind sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren with whom she shared many birthdays. She is also survived by her siblings, Blanca; Silvia; Luis; and Gina as well as several nieces, nephews and close friends. Lydia’s family would also like to extend their deepest thanks to Dr. Mateen and Dr. Panitch for their dedicated care and support over the last twenty years. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, June 13, 2018 from 4-7PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke. Her funeral will begin at 9:30AM from Messiers on Thursday, June 14, 2018 with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30AM in Immaculate Conception Church, 54 N. Summer St., Holyoke.
