Luz Maria Rivera, 75, beloved wife of Sergio Cruz, who predeceased her, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday November 7, 2021 with her loving family at her side. Born in Orocobis, Puerto Rico to Juan Rivera-Torres and Maria Catalina Rivera Luciano, she was a longtime resident of Holyoke. Luz was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Holyoke and was a loving and devoted mother. She worked at “The Sisters of Mount Marie”. She retired after 30 years and never used a sick day. She loved to cook and always enjoyed having family gatherings. She once found a stray cat with a broken leg, and after several hours and several veterinarians advising her to euthanize the cat, she found a veterinarian in Connecticut who saved the cat, this was a reflection of her great heart. She is survived by her loving children, Sergio Cruz and his wife, Sonia of Springfield, Jose Cruz of Holyoke, Carmen Cruz of Springfield, Marisol Cruz of Holyoke, Holyoke Police Captain, Isaiah Cruz of Southampton, and Maritza Cruz of Holyoke, siblings, Angel and Pepe Rivera and Paula Rivera all of Puerto Rico, numerous grandchildren, including her special grandson and caregiver, Tyrone O’Banner of Holyoke and numerous great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to meet for a period of visitation on Monday November 15, 2021 from 9–11 a.m. at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St. in Holyoke followed by a at 11 a.m. service in the funeral home.
