George V. Coppez of Holyoke died peacefully on April 8, 2020, at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home after complications from COVID-19. He was 98 years old. George was born in Malden, Massachusetts on November 16, 1921 to Camille & Maria (Pevenage) Coppez. He was a graduate of Malden High School. George was a WWII Army Air Corp. veteran. He was stationed in Hawaii and Westover AFB. George worked for Philip Hano and retired from Curtis Business Forms as a lithographer. He loved all the Boston sports teams, especially the Boston Bruins, Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He was an assistant football coach for Holyoke High School for many years. He was a talented musician and drummer playing with the Jimmy Dorsey Band in N.Y. for a period of time. He played numerous shows at the Mountain Park Playhouse during the summer months and he also played many years with the Gerry Lamothe Band. George leaves behind his children Patricia (Bob) Klopfer of Holyoke, Diane (Jack) Craven of Easthampton and George (Peg) Coppez of Easthampton. He also leaves his cherished grandchildren Robert (Marie) Klopfer, Jennifer (Collin) Provost, Peter (Elizabeth) Coppez, Mark (Nichole) Coppez, and Eric Coppez and his 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alda (St. Laurent) Coppez after 53 years of marriage. He was also predeceased by his second wife, Raymonde Pollard. Donations in George’s name can be made to the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, Attn. Activities Fund. 110 Cherry St. Holyoke MA. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff, who cared for our father, at the Soldiers’ Home specifically Kim, Vanessa, Amanda, Sarah, Carrie and Michelle. You treated our father with dignity, kindness and respect and loved him as if he were your own father. Due to the current situation, services held will be private. Messiers Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
