CLAIRE M. (DAVIAU) CANTIN
HOLYOKE - Claire M. Cantin passed away at home surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, July 25, 2018. She was born in Holyoke on March 7, 1929 to the late Rudolph Daviau and Bella (Desourcy) Daviau. Claire was a graduate of Chicopee H.S. Class of 1946. She grew up in Aldenville and married her husband of 62 years in St. Rose de Lima Church. They were the parents of 5 children and Claire was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who truly cherished her time with her family. Her husband, Gerard (Gerry) Cantin passed away in December 2010. Claire was a talented pianist and a member of the Chicopee High School Orchestra and accompanist for the Chicopee High School Chorus. She was a member of; the former "Circle des Dames Francaise, South Hadley Women's Club, St. Patrick’s Church Bereavement Group, Red Hat Ladies and the Ladies Guild of St. Patricks' Church where she was an active member. She worked for 10 years at the E.J. O'Neil Agency of Chicopee Falls and later for 10 years in the Auditor's Office in Holyoke City Hall. Claire retired from the Audit Division of the MA Department of Revenue after completing 10 years of service in 1994. Claire will be sadly missed by her family. Claire was predeceased by her oldest son, David Cantin in May of 2013. Claire leaves four children, Dr Denise Cantin of Holyoke, MA; Donald and his wife Lynda of Holden, MA; Daniel and his wife Carol of South Hadley, MA and Diane Deshaies and her husband Dr. Michael Deshaies of Longmeadow, MA. She also leaves 7 grandchildren; Police Lt. Detective Jeffrey Cantin and wife Dr. Rita Mezzatesta of Atlanta, GA; Dr. Jason Cantin and his wife Candy of Austin, TX; Dr. Lisa Cantin Mulryan and her husband Michael Mulryan of Shrewsbury, MA; Stephen Cantin and his wife Attorney Shirley Cantin of Boston, MA; Amber Cantin of Boston, MA; Elizabeth Deshaies and Joseph Deshaies of Longmeadow, MA. She leaves 9 great grandchildren; Parker, Corey, Arwen and Willow Mulryan of Shrewsbury, MA; Ella and Saylor Cantin of Boston, MA; and Henry, Sam and Emily Cantin of Austin, TX. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 4-7PM at Messier Funeral Home 1944 Northampton St, Holyoke, MA 01040. The funeral will begin at 8:45AM on Thursday, August 2, 2018 from Messier's followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10AM in St. Patrick's Church, 30 Main St., South Hadley. The Rite of Committal and Burial will follow in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, Aldenville. If friends desire, donations in Claire's name can be made to a charity of one's choice.
