WILLIAM R. KANE
1935 – 2010

HOLYOKE- William Richard Kane, 74, passed away with the love and support of his family at Holyoke Medical Center on Saturday, September 18, 2010. He was born in Boston, MA on October 18, 1935 the son of the late William Patrick Kane and Helen Cassidy. William was a “Double Eagle” educated at B. C. High School and a 1957 graduate of Boston College. He served honorably in the National Guard from 1953 to 1959. Most recently Bill was employed with Allston Supply in Springfield as a salesman and retired in 2000 after 17 dedicated years with the company. Bill enjoyed reading, playing pitch and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events. He also looked forward to his trips to Sarasota, FL, was an avid Red Sox fan and loved animals. He was a lifelong member of the Elk’s Lodge # 902 in Holyoke. Bill was active in his community having served on the Holyoke School Committee, Holyoke Planning Board and was a youth coach for the Gals Sports, Holyoke Youth Soccer League and Holyoke Youth Baseball. Bill is survived by his son, James Kane and his fiancée Shauna Kelly of Brewster, MA; his two daughters, Maureen Cronin and her husband Jim of Holyoke; Karen McManus and her husband Kevin of Shrewsbury, MA. Bill will be missed dearly by his 5 grandchildren: Jamie, Patrick, Brian, John and Erin and his 2 great grandchildren Natalie and Isabella. William will be missed by his companion, Patricia Woods of Holyoke. He also is survived by his sister Ruth Lumbert of Pocasset, MA as well as his former wife Elaine (Sudyka) Kane of Holyoke. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010 from 4-7 PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. Bill’s funeral will begin on Wednesday at 8:45 AM from Messier’s and followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10 AM in Mater Dolorosa Church, Holyoke. The Burial and Rite of Committal will be in St. Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke. Memorial donations can be made to Open Pantry, 287 State St., Spfld, MA 01105 or to the Holyoke Boys & Girls Club, 70 Nick Cosmos Way, Holyoke, MA 01040.
