Virginia P. (Stafford) Sligo passed away at her home on Thursday, January 28, 2016 after a brief illness just a few weeks after celebrating her 87th birthday. She was born in Holyoke on January 10, 1929 a daughter of the late Herman and Ella (Bilz) Stafford and educated in Holyoke Schools. Virginia worked primarily in food services for many years and worked for the canteen co at Scott Graphics, Brunelles Marina and with Stop and Shop on Lincoln St. in the Bakery Dept. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, William F. Sligo in November of 2013. She was active as the President of the ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post #260 and as the Ladies Auxiliary President at the Holyoke Turn Verein, Board member and volunteer with the South Hadley Council on Aging and served as a Girl Scout Leader. She is survived by her two sons, Bill Sligo of South Hadley; Richard Sligo of Chicopee and her daughter, Dale Saunders of Huntington. Virginia will be forever remembered by her three grandchildren, Bruce “Chip” and Chad Saunders and Shannon Sligo; six great grandchildren, Ethan , Ben , Luke and Brooke Saunders, Ryan and Hazel Sligo. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends as well as her beloved pets. She was predeceased by two brothers and two sisters, Louis and Mason Stafford and Mariella Lajoie and Phyllis Blair. Virginia is predeceased by her granddaughter Lynn Saunders. All funeral services are private as Virginia had desired.
