Susan M. Brosnan

West Springfield – Susan Marie (O’Connell) Brosnan, 72, passed away Sunday July 16th 2023 at Vantage of Wilbraham. Born in Holyoke, MA to Joseph D. and Lucille R. (LaRoche) O’Connell, she was a graduate of Granby High School. After high school, Susan went on to receive her bachelor’s in education from the University of Massachusetts. She taught abroad in England for a year, before returning to teach in Greenfield, MA and then at St. Thomas School in West Springfield, where she remained for many years. Susan also was a devoted Catechism Teacher at Holy Family Church in Holyoke for many years. Susan had many passions including art, painting, reading and spending time in her garden. She loved animals, including her beloved dogs, Hooper and Murphy and took pride in being known as the ‘cookie gram’, a name which she was given by her grandchildren for having a special cookie drawer in her house. Susan will be missed dearly by her two children, Caitlin Menard and her husband, Michael of West Springfield, with whom Susan resided with the past several years, and Seth Brosnan and his wife Sheila of Leeds, MA; her four siblings, Thomas O’Connell and his wife Sharon of Huntington, Daniel O’Connell of New Hampshire, Stephen O’Connell of Hadley and James O’Connell and his wife Terri of Chicopee; her four beloved grandchildren, Asha Menard, Lucas Brosnan, Jackson Menard and Tristan Brosnan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A period of visitation will be held on Thursday July 20th from 8:45 – 9:45 a.m. at the Messier Funeral Home 1944 Northampton St. Holyoke followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton St., Holyoke. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
