Sarah Burke
Peterson
February 3, 1981 – April 13, 2026
United Congregational Church
Starts at 11:00 am (Eastern time)
Sarah Peterson (née Burke) passed away on April 13, 2026. She is survived by her loving husband, Matthew Peterson, and her cherished dog, Frankie. Sarah was the proud daughter of William and Anne Burke of Holyoke, and the beloved sister of Billy, Angela, Christopher, Maggie, Theresa, Tim, Jen, Steve, Jeff, Mariah, Liz, Andrew, Rachel, and Pat. Family was at the center of Sarah's life, and she carried that love into everything she did.
She was deeply devoted to her parents and cherished the time spent bringing them around town, especially to Mass at Jericho. Her patience and compassion were unmatched.
Sarah found immense joy in her role as an aunt. She was always ready to babysit at a moment's notice, cheer on her nieces and nephews at games and performances, or treat them to special outings at Friendly's or Barnes & Noble. She treasured every moment spent with them and loved receiving updates and photos of their lives.
A 1999 graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School and a 2003 graduate of Westfield State University, Sarah remained deeply devoted to her hometown. Her love for Holyoke was unwavering-so much so that her husband, Matt, knew better than to consider living anywhere else. Whether working at Barnes & Noble or greeting familiar faces at Big Y World Class Market, Sarah welcomed everyone with a warm smile and an open heart.
Though she never considered herself an athlete, Sarah was an enthusiastic supporter-the kind of teammate everyone hopes for. She encouraged others from the sidelines and celebrated their successes as if they were her own.
Sarah will be remembered for her kindness, gentleness, and the deep love she shared with her family and community. She will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. at United Congregational Church, 300 Appleton Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts. Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation immediately following the service in the fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention.
