Robert Charles Messier, 89, of Belchertown and beloved husband of 25 years to Lorraine J. (Bourgault) Messier, passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at Wing Memorial Hospital in Palmer. Robert was born on January 16, 1937, in Holyoke, MA, a son of Alfred E. and B. Freida (Ruel) Messier. He was raised and educated in Holyoke and was a graduate of Holyoke High School. Robert served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. For over 32 years, he was involved with investigative work that included Federal and municipal levels and was most recently Director of Veterans’ Services in Belchertown. In his earlier years, he also helped with the family business, Messier Funeral Home in Holyoke. Robert was a talented vocalist who sang with the Springfield Symphony and the Dan Kane Singers. He leaves his beloved wife, Lorraine of Belchertown, children, Robert C. Messier Jr. and his wife Janice of Granby, TX, Louise Bohannon and her husband, Doug of Brewster, MA, Michael Messier and his wife Lori of Hopkinton, MA, and Christine Harris of Burlington, VT, step daughters, Cynthia Beaudry of Flagler Beach, FL and Laura Grondin of Wells, ME, sister, Patricia Thiebe of South Hadley, and 13 cherished grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Timothy Messier, brother, Clement Messier and sister, Jacqueline Kurtz. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday February 28th at 11:00 AM for Robert’s funeral service at First Central Bible Church, 50 Broadway St., Chicopee, MA 01020. Burial will be private at a later date. There are no calling hours. Messier Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
