Richard J. Lafortune

RICHARD J. LAFORTUNE, SR. 1941 � 2011 HOLYOKE- Richard J. LaFortune, Sr., 69, of Holyoke died peacefully at home after losing his fight with cancer. He was born in Winchendon, MA on August 4, 1941 the son of the late Frederick and Edna LaFortune of Holyoke. Richard joined the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country for four years. He was employed for 35 years at Associated Building Wreckers. Richard is predeceased by his brothers, Frederick and Jim LaFortune and his sister Jeannette Underwood. Richard is survived by his loving wife Carol (Murray) LaFortune with who he shared 45 years of marriage and happiness; his sons, Richard LaFortune and his wife Terri of Holyoke; Henry and his wife Tammy of Ludlow; Bruce of Springfield; Paul and his wife Darlene of Chicopee. He is also survived by his brother Pierre of South Hadley. Richard also leaves his eight adored grandchildren, Emily, Zack, Nicole, Jessica, Sarah, Leeann, Shawn and Jonathan whom he enjoyed watching grow. Visiting hours for Richard will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 4-7 PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. His funeral ceremony will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 beginning at 11: 15 at Messier�s and followed by the burial with military honor in the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans� Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam at 1 PM.
