RICHARD J. CHATEL 1928 � 2011 HOLYOKE- Richard �Speed� Chatel, 82, passed away in the comfort of his home on Monday, February 21, 2011 surrounded by his devoted family. Dick was born in Easthampton, MA on December 28, 1928 a son of the late Florence Duso and Albert Chatel. Dick was also predeceased by his two brothers, Donald Chatel and Kenneth Chatel. He was educated locally and served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1951 � 1956 and was stationed in Germany for three years. Most recently Dick was a shipping and receiving clerk at American Pad and Paper Co. retiring after 50 years of dedicated service to the company. Dick is survived by his wife 42 years, Barbara Deslippe Chatel of Holyoke; Dick is survived by several children, grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time with his family and traveling with his wife. Dick was an avid Notre Dame, Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics and Bruins fan. In his final months of life Dick was in the care of the great people from Holyoke Hospice and VNA, his wife as well as his devoted children and caregivers, Mark and Gary Chatel and Michele Fleury who stayed by his side while he was on Hospice Care. A private Catholic funeral service was held on Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke with burial in Notre Dame Cemetery. If friends desire, memorial donations can be made to Blessed Sacrament Church, 1934 Northampton St., Holyoke 01040 or to Holyoke Hospice and VNA, 113 Hampden St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
