Holyoke – Migdalia Ortiz, 59, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 21, 2020 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. Born in Bayamon, Puerto Rico to the late Basilio and Irma (Garcia) Oquendo, she was a longtime area resident. Migdalia graduated from Holyoke High School, Class of 79, and received her teaching degree from UMass Amherst. She dedicated her career to teaching children, most recently in the Chicopee Public Schools as an ESL teacher. Migdalia had a passion for arts, culture and traditions, something that she enjoyed instilling in her own children growing up. Besides her dedication to teaching, she also was an advocate for those with special needs. Migdalia will be dearly missed by her devoted husband of 37 years, Juan Antonio Ortiz, Jr. of Holyoke; her two adored children, Eliana Breault and her husband Brian and her son, Antonio “Tony” Ortiz; her sister, Nancy Serrano and her husband Jose and a very special grandson, Liam Breault. A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Migdalia at a later date. Messier funeral home is assisting the family with arrangements.
