Margaret Mason

August 11, 1921 — August 19, 2014

HOLYOKE-Margaret R. (Saunders) Mason, 93, passed away on August 19, 2014 at Willimansett West Nursing Home. She was born on August 11, 1921 in Sherbrooke, Quebec to the late William and Helen (Whiting) Saunders. She came to Holyoke as a young child and attended Holyoke schools, graduating from Holyoke High School. Margaret worked for many years as a secretary at the Holyoke Valve and Hydrant Co., where she met her future husband, Raymond Mason. Margaret�s many interests included music and books. Her expert crocheting was known by many who were the recipients of her beautiful work. Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she enjoyed their yearly trips to the beach together. Margaret was predeceased by her husband Raymond, who died in August of 2004, after spending 50 years together. She was also predeceased by her sister, Mary Pronovost. Margaret leaves her son, well-known area musician Ray Mason, and his wife Karen, of Haydenville; her loving daughter Deborah Angers and her husband James of Holyoke; three grandchildren who were the light of her life, Jennifer Czepiel and her husband Richard of Holyoke, Amy Oskirko and her husband Brian of Lancaster, and Michael Angers and his wife Elisa of Holyoke; and five precious great-grandchildren, Matthew and Jason Czepiel, Jetta and Olivia Oskirko, and Lily Angers. The family would like to thank all of the wonderful caregivers at the Willimansett West Nursing Home. Calling hours will be on Monday, August 25 from 4-7 PM at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke. Burial in St. Jerome Cemetery in Holyoke will be private at a later date.
