Leonard Fontaine

May 2, 1920 — April 30, 2013

CHICOPEE- Leonard V. Fontaine, 92, a longtime Chicopee resident and active gentleman with many area organizations passed away on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Willimansett Center West. He was born in Holyoke on May 2, 1920 a son of the late Victor J. and Victoria (Syrek) Fontaine and was educated in Chicopee schools graduating from Chicopee High School. Leonard enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and served honorably as an aviation radioman. He was a self- employed commercial artist working for over 10 years at Hamilton Standard and later retired from United Technologies. He was a communicant of Nativity Church, and was very active throughout his life as a member of the Young at Heart Choral Group, Boy Scouts Leader in Chicopee, Harmani Cats, Swinging Seniors from Chicopee, Chordsman of Chicopee and the Golden Agers. He loved being a Cyclonaut and traveling by bicycle across the country. He was an active hiker, longtime blood donor and will be remembered for his generosity and love of life. He is survived by his brother, Norman Fontaine and his wife Margaret of Springfield; two nephews, Robert Fontaine and his wife Carol of Iowa; David Fontaine and his wife Deborah of Belchertown. Visiting hours will be held on Monday, May 6, 2013 from 9-10:30AM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke and followed by a funeral home service at 10:30AM. The Burial and Rite of Committal will be in Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley. Memorial donations can be made in Leonard’s name to a charity of one’s choice.
