LAWRENCE L. LANGEVIN
1924-2018
HOLYOKE- Lawrence L. Langevin, 94, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2018 at the Holyoke Soldiers Home. He was born on May 9, 1924, a son of the late Albert and Celina (Beaulieu) Langevin. Lawrence proudly served his country from 1942 - 1945 in the US Army. He was attached to the 44th Armored Infantry Battalion and he saw action in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was the recipient of a Purple Heart medal and the Eur Afr Mid-East Campaign Ribbon with four service Stars. He retired from United Technologies in 1986 after years of being a machinist. He was predeceased by Eva (Kuenzel) Langevin, his wife of 65 years in 2008. He was an avid Red Sox fan, he looked forward to the annual Father’s Day trip to the PawSox games with his sons, he loved playing cribbage, Bingo at the Soldiers Home on Fridays (with a take-out order of clam chowder), he was especially fond of chocolate chip cookies, and he loved sitting out on his sun porch watching the world go by. Lawrence was proud to be a deacon at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church for many years and he enjoyed serving communion to church members at the Soldiers Home. He was also a life-long member of the American Legion #351. He will be greatly missed by his two sons, Douglas Langevin and his wife Barbara Dame of Southampton; David Langevin and his partner Cathy Fracaro of Ridgewood NJ; his siblings, Cecile Fontaine of Easthampton and Edward Langevin. He leaves 2 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, a special niece Christine Peloquin, and several other nieces, nephews, and friends. Lawrence was predeceased by two brothers, Norman Langevin and George Langevin, and a sister, Anita Peterson. The family would like to express its deepest appreciation to the staff at the Holyoke Medical Center and at the Holyoke Soldiers Home for the professional care and comfort that was provided to Lawrence in his final days. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 from 4-7PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton Street, Holyoke. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at 10AM in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 34 Jarvis Ave, Holyoke. The burial will take place at a later date in Forestdale Cemetery.
