HOLYOKE- Joseph F. Burke, 99, passed away January 17, 2012 at Loomis House in Holyoke. Joseph was born in Piscataway, NJ, on April 12, 1912, a son of the late Michael and Julia (O’Donnell) Burke. He graduated June 19, 1929 from Bound Brook High School in NJ. Joseph was predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Anne (Malloy). He was a dedicated accountant for 45 years at Cyanamid Company. Joseph was a devoted Parishioner of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish and the former St. Mary’s Parish in Northampton. He loved sports and in his youth he played baseball and basketball, and his later years he enjoyed golf and bowling. Joseph will be deeply missed by his three daughters; Irene B. Carew of Amherst; Judith A. Burke of Northampton; Geraldine M. Burke and her husband Ruben Hernandez of Teaneck, NJ; his three adored grandchildren; Scott Carew of CT; Raul and Erika Hernandez of NJ; his two great-grandchildren; Brodie and Kaler Carew. He also leaves his extended family and an abundance of friends. Joseph was predeceased by his brother and five sisters; John Burke; Margaret Burke; Julia Byard; Lillian McDowell; Irene Fuller and Dorothy Culley. Visiting hours for Joseph are Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 5-7 PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will begin on Friday at 10:00 AM in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 99 King St., Northampton, MA 01060. The Burial and Rite of Committal will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
