John Raymond Mulcahy

September 8, 1921 — July 22, 2012

HOLYOKE-John Raymond Mulcahy passed away at the home of his son Jay, surrounded by loving family. A lifelong Holyoke resident John was predeceased by his parents John J. Mulcahy and Oglore D. (La Belle) Mulcahy; his sisters Cecile Bertera, Pauline Cousineau, Dorothy Boucher and brother Richard Mulcahy. John’s wife, Denny (Genevieve Bryant) Mulcahy passed away in 2001. A graduate of Holyoke High School, John served in the Seabee division of the U.S. Navy during World War II and he was stationed in Okinawa. After the war John worked as a Building Contractor, building a large number of homes in the Holyoke area. He later worked for the Holyoke Public Health Department and was the Building Commissioner for the city. John took pleasure visiting family and friends with his dog, enjoyed his farm and the ski area he used to operate, tinkering with clocks and was a member of the Model T Club. He enjoyed restoring and driving antique cars. He leaves; his son Jay (John B.) Mulcahy and wife Martha (Roe) Mulcahy and his grandsons Adam J. and Brian C. all from Holyoke. He also leaves many nieces and nephews and dear friends. A gathering will be held at Jay’s home 62 Mountain Road to share our stories and memories of John on Sunday, August 5, 2012 from 3-7 PM. A Private burial with Military Honor will be held on Monday, August 6, 2012 at 3 PM in the chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St., Agawam MA. Memorial Donations may be made to Baystate Health Foundation, 280 Chestnut St., Spfld, MA or to Hospice Life Care, 110 Hampden St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
