John P. Clare

1937 – 2020

John’s Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday August 1st 2020 at 9:30 AM at Saint Theresa of Lisieux Church, 9 East Parkview Dr., South Hadley, MA followed by committal services with Military Honors in St. Rose Cemetery in South Hadley. There are no calling hours.

Holyoke – John P. “Brud” Clare, 82, passed away from the effects of COVID-19. He was the son of the late John V. and Mary (O’Connor) Clare. After High School, John served his country honorably for three years in the U.S. Navy. Throughout his career, John was employed with the U.S. Postal Service, taking care of the service window at the South Hadley Post Office. He loved to watch sporting events of all kind, especially the NY Yankees and NY Giants Football. He always enjoyed calling referees and umpires to task when he felt a bad call was made. John was very vocal about it! John spent his last few years at the Holyoke Soldiers Home where he would entertain the troops with his singing renditions of old-time songs – mostly off key. John was a member of The Orchards Golf club for many years. He was affectionately known as “Mudslide” by his friends there. He particularly enjoyed the once a year gathering at Christmas time with his high school buddies to reminisce old times and tell stories of past experiences. John was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judy (Dunleavy); his daughter, Judi Clare and sisters, Jean Boggio and Mary Tesini. John is survived by his brothers-in-law, Joseph Boggio, Gerald Tesini and John Dunleavy and his wife Pat and by several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Holyoke Medical Center for the quality care John received. Funeral services will be held at a later date due to the coronavirus. Memorial donations may be made to the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home, 110 Cherry St. Holyoke, MA 01040. Messier Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
