HOLYOKE- James “Larry” Cavanaugh, 59, a lifelong resident here died suddenly at his home on Thursday, July 14, 2011. Jim now joins his infant son, Matthew in the peace of everlasting life and love along with his parents and his sister, Mary Ann Comiskey. Jim was born in Holyoke on December 17, 1951 a son of the late Michael and Dorothy (Bissell) Cavanaugh and was a graduate of Holyoke Catholic High School. Most recently he was employed at the Holyoke District Trial Court as a security officer and retired in 2010 after 25 years of service. Jim coached for the Holyoke Youth Soccer and Holyoke Youth Baseball Leagues. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council # 90 and enjoyed listening to blues music in his spare time. Jim is survived by his three children, Jaime, Meghan and Patrick Cavanaugh. He will be missed by his four brothers, Michael Cavanaugh; John Cavanaugh and his wife Louise; Tom Cavanaugh and his wife Louise; Joe Cavanaugh and his wife Joan all of Holyoke. He is survived by an aunt, Anne Girard of Holyoke as well as many nieces, nephew and cousins. Jim will be remembered for his lighthearted ways and his ability to bring excitement to family events and celebrations. A visiting hour will be held on Monday, July 18, 2011 from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will also be celebrated on Monday at 9:30 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton St., Holyoke.
