Helen Marie (Flaherty) Chotain, 71, of Chicopee, passed away on Sunday October 12, 2008 in Mercy Medical Center. Born in Holyoke and a Holyoke resident for most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Timothy and Helen (Fitzgerald) Flaherty. Helen was a retired hairdresser having worked for various beauty salons in the Holyoke area. Following her hairdressing career she was a home companion for Western Mass Elder Care. She leaves two sons, Ronald C. Chotain and his wife, Nicole of Ludlow; Vance T. Chotain of Northampton; a brother, William J. Flaherty of Leesburg, VA; two sisters, Marylyn Cammilleri of Enfield, CT; Kathleen Higgins of Chicopee; her grandchildren; Toby Gagne; Jason Gagne; Meghan Chotain; Justin Chotain; Austin Chotain and Marcel Chotain, her great grandchildren; Chrisanna Gagne; Christopher Drummond, Jr.; Jason Gagne, II; Courtney Gagne; Billy Drummond; Daryl Gagne; and Alphone Fiorillo; several nieces and nephews and her grand dogs, Molli and Jerico. Helen was predeceased by a daughter Marion Gagne; a granddaughter Tina Gagne and by her brother Charles R. Flaherty. Funeral services will be held at the Messier Funeral Home 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at 7 p.m. Family and friends may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.
