HOLYOKE- Gilles “Jimmy” Cournoyer, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Jan. 8, 2016 at his home. He was born in Drummondville, PDQ, Canada on April 1, 1950 a son of the late Paul and Georgianna (Plante) Cournoyer. He was educated in Holyoke Schools and attended Perpetual Help and Holyoke Trade schools. He was a maintenance worker for the Holyoke Gas and Electric for over 16 years. Many will miss the time spent in “The Garage” where so many stories were told, games enjoyed as well as friendships made. Jimmy was an avid Patriots and Red Sox fan and enjoyed camping, especially with his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of over 25 years, Dianne F. (Giguere) of Holyoke; his son, Joseph Giguere of Holyoke; his daughter, Patricia “PatPat” Hart of Holyoke; five adored grandchildren, Evan, Justin, Joey, Joseph, Thalia and great granddaughter Maddison Grace; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He also leaves his six siblings, Paul Cournoyer and his wife Shirley of South Hadley; Serge Cournoyer of Holyoke; Robert Cournoyer of Holyoke; Jacques Cournoyer of Granby; Carmen Roman of Granby, and Nichole Pare of South Hadley. In addition to his parents Jimmy was predeceased by a brother, Jean “Guy” Cournoyer. Life Celebration hours will be held on Monday, January 11, 2016 from 4-7PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. Friends and family are asked to gather on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 beginning at 9:15AM in Messier’s for a funeral home celebration at 10AM. The burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke.
