Holyoke – Mrs. Gabrielle M. (Caouette) Bernier, 89, died on Monday, June 21 at Mercy Medical Center. She was born in Holyoke on April 26, 1921, a daughter of the late Joseph and Alma (Bessette) Caouette. She attended local schools and was a lifelong resident. She was the wife of the late Laurence W. Bernier, who died on June 30, 1993. She loved playing bingo and cards with her friends at Falcetti Towers and camping and traveling with her family. She was predeceased by her daughter Linda Dugre who died on July 13, 2006 and her sisters Lucille Fleming and Yvette Hebert. She is survived by a son, Richard of Springfield, Linda’s husband Robert Dugre of Springfield, their children Laura, Lynanne and Steven, her son Lawrence and his wife Rosemary of Holyoke, their children Michael and Christopher, her son Donald and his wife Anita of Holyoke, their children Sara, Tami, Stacy, Allen, Samantha, Michael, and Brittany, her son Ronald and his wife Lori of Agawam, their children Corinne and Craig. She also leaves her sister Rita Lablond of Framingham MA and a brother, Joseph Caouette of Hudson, Florida. She will be sadly missed by 17 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours are on Saturday, June 26 from 8 to 10am at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St. (Route 5) Holyoke, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church at 11am. Burial will follow in Precious Blood Cemetery in South Hadley. In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
