LUDLOW – Flora Geneva (Herlihy) Egloff, 92, entered in to eternal rest on Sunday, May 2, 2010. Flora was born in Millinocket, Maine and a resident of Holyoke for many years before moving to Ludlow. She was the daughter of the late Roy and Flora (Boyer) Herlihy. Flora was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and great great grandmother. Her priorities were her family and a faith filled life. Flora was a life deaconess at the First Baptist Church of Holyoke. She was also a member and past president of the First Baptist Ladies Guild and a member of the board of the New England Deaconess Society. She was also a member of the American Baptist Women’s Society and a board member of Downey Side of Holyoke. Flora was active in the Girl Scouts of America for many years as both a scout and a leader. In her youth, Flora was active in the Red Cross as a senior life saver. Although diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa in the 1960’s and declared legally blind in 1986, she lived her life to the fullest. Her undaunted spirit of adventure kept her traveling to visit family from Puerto Rico to Kodiak, Alaska and other places in between. Flora was predeceased by her husband Joseph L. Egloff who passed in 1977 and by her siblings Roy Herlihy, William Herlihy, Frances Lefebvre and Geraldine Ashton. She leaves a son, Richard J. Egloff of Toms River, NJ; two daughters, Judith A. Hebert and her husband Ronald of Ludlow, Janice Burns and her husband Larry of Brookfield, CT. Flora also has five grandchildren, Helen Egloff, Geoffrey Hebert, Matthew Hebert, Erin (Burns) Shaw, Kelly Burns; six great grandchildren, Michael Marcus, Sara Klinsky, Marie, Sam, Joy, Josh Hebert and two great great grandchildren, Kaleigh Marcus, Lily Rose Marcus. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the First Baptist Church, 1976 Northampton St., Holyoke at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Holyoke, the Downey Side, 999 Liberty St., Springfield, MA 01104 or to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 North Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472.
