HOLYOKE- Felix Monarca, 85, passed away at his home on Saturday, November 14, 2015. He was born in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico on May 3, 1930 a son of the late Rafael and Maria (Olmo) Monarca. He was a lifelong educator in the world and loved helping others who needed support and guidance. He was a longtime employee with the Department of Assitance for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. He also taught in the local school system for several years prior to his commitment to the people of the Commomnwealth. He loved spending time in Florida with his family and friends over the years. He enjoyed the beach with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and their families who are many in number. He never really stopped working or lost his sense of humor until his last days. His work ethic and integrity have left a positive imprint in many family’s lives. Felix is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Anna (Monserrate) Monarca of Holyoke and they leave four devoted children: Felix Monarca, Jr of Holyoke; Eduardo Monarca of Holyoke; Carmen Cruz of Holyoke and Gladys Monarca Garcia of Holyoke. He also leaves many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins of whom he was extremely proud. Felix now joins his parents as well as a daughter, Maria Bennis and his granddaughter Maribel Torres in eternal peace and rest. Visiting hours for felix will be held Tuesday November 17, 2015 from 4-7pm at Messier Funeral Home, 194 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. The funeral will be Wednesday, November 18, 2015 beginning at 9am from Messier's and followed by the church service at 11am in United Congregational Church, 478 Pleasant St, Holyoke.
