Estelle Marie Whiting

Estelle M. Whiting 1923 � 2010 Holyoke � Mrs. Estelle M. �Stelly� (Jenks) Whiting, 86, a lifelong Holyoke resident, passed away at Loomis House on Saturday, March 20. She was born in Holyoke on March 21, 1923, a daughter of the late Daniel and Helen (Bader) Jenks. She attended local schools and graduated as Valedictorian from Holyoke High School class of 1940, then continuing her education, graduating from Smith College class of 1944. She was a member of the former Junior League of Holyoke, the Holyoke Hospital Aid Association, and the Board of Directors of the Holyoke YMCA. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the former U.S. Rubber Company, Plastic Coating Corp, and Technifax as a chemist. She was a member of the Second Congregational Church, now the United Congregational Church of Holyoke where she served as Chairman of the Music Committee, Editor of the Tower, and as Secretary of the Diaconate. She was also an avid tennis player at the Holyoke Canoe Club, and enjoyed playing Bridge often. She was the wife of the late Philip C. Whiting, Jr., who died on September 2, 2002. She is survived by her son, Philip C. �Pete� Whiting, III and his wife Sara Jane of Westhampton, and will be sadly missed by two granddaughters, Abigail, and Rachel. She also leaves one brother, Daniel Jenks, Jr. of New York, and one sister, Nancy Sevrens of Nantucket, MA. She was predeceased by her brother, Joseph C. Jenks. Relatives and friends are requested to meet at the Skinner Chapel of the United Congregational Church, Maple St., Holyoke, on Saturday, March 27 for 11am services. Burial will follow in Forestdale Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Estelle�s name may be directed to the Dakin Pioneer Valley Humane Society, P. O. Box 6307, Springfield, MA 01101.
