ELIZABETH A. HAARMANN
1922 – 2011
HOLYOKE - Elizabeth A. (Lynch) Haarmann died peacefully on April 23rd in the Sterling Village Nursing Home in Sterling, MA. She was two months short of her 89th birthday. Betty was the seventh of nine children born to Edward and Catherine (Moriarty) Lynch, both immigrants from the town of Kenmare, County Kerry, in the west of Ireland. The last of her birth family, Betty was predeceased by her eight brothers and sisters. She was immensely proud of her Irish heritage, and when they were all young, she loved to step dance with her sisters and sing Irish songs. Betty was married for sixty years to Carl Haarmann, who died in 2004. Betty and Carl had three sons, Carl Jr., Tim, and Kevin, married to Diane, Ronnie, and Cathy respectively. They had six grandchildren, and eleven great grandchildren. Betty worked as a secretary for several years at Westover Air Force Base, but her role as a wife and mother was the work she loved best and did so very well. No one baked a better pie, and her son, Tim is still searching for the secret of her toll house cookies. Her gentle presence will be sorely missed by her family even as we are grateful for having had her as our mother. Her funeral will be today at 9AM from Messier Funeral Home, Holyoke and followed by a Mass at 10 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church with burial in St. Jerome Cemetery. Please visit
