Eileen M. Lynskey
1944 - 2022
Eileen passed on to her next journey in the thankful arms of her three loving children. Born on September 5, 1944, Eileen was a lifelong resident of Holyoke. She received a Catholic school education and graduated from Sacred Heart in 1962. Her strong faith continued to grow which led her to over 30 years of service at Saint Jerome Parish managing the office. Eileen was predeceased by her parents Michael and Sabina Cahill (nee Meenaghan), cherished nephew Kevin Cahill, brother-in-law Paul Hefferon, as well as her husband Willie Lynskey. Left behind with broken hearts are brother Johnny Cahill and his wife Carol Cahill, sister Kathleen “Patsy” Smith, twin sister Maureen Larkin, and sister-in-law Alice Hefferon; children Helen Wright (Dave), Joey Lynskey (Katherine), and Sabina Lynskey (Pete the Yeet); along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends near and far. Eileen also went by many other aliases such as Momma, Auntie Eye, Eye Eye, and Leenie, but none brought her more happiness and pride than being called Grammie. Her grandchildren Emma, Kara, Owen, Andrew, Liam, and Aurora brought “BUNCHES and BUNCHES” of love to her heart. They will be forever grateful for the time they shared and the wonderful memories they created. Eileen lived a great and humble life with family always the main focus. She wanted nothing more in life than happiness for her family and friends; the lives she touched span far and wide looking for absolutely nothing in return. The love, care, generosity, Irish hospitality, and complete and total selflessness that she spread created a gravitational force that strongly held the family together. Her legacy will live in the kindness and love toward one another as everyone tries to fill the tremendous void created from losing someone so special. To say she will be missed would be one of the great understatements. Her kind soul is at rest, free from pain, and united with many loved ones, especially her Kev, Stevie, and Jack who all left far too soon. Calling hours will be held on Friday July 22nd from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke. Eileen’s funeral will be on Saturday July 23rd starting at 8:45 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Jerome’s Church, 169 Hampden St., Holyoke. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery in Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Eileen’s memory to Shriner’s Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104 or The Jimmy Fund, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
