EDWARD M. SCANLON, SR.
1925 – 2009
SOUTH HADLEY – Edward M. “Skish” Scanlon, Sr., 83, passed away on Wednesday, February 4th in a local nursing home. He was born in Holyoke on May 11, 1925, a son of the late John and Nellie (O’Connor) Scanlon. He attended local schools and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He retired from the former Moore Drop Forge after thirty two years of service. Edward was an avid golfer, enjoyed gardening, former Scout Leader of Boy Scout Troop 303, and little league baseball coach. He is survived by his beloved wife of sixty years, Shirley (Meehan) Scanlon, two sons, Michael Scanlon and his wife Gail of South Hadley, and Edward Scanlon, Jr. and his wife Donna of Wilbraham, two daughters, BethAnn Therrien of Holyoke, and MaryEllen Sullivan and her husband James of Connecticut. He will be sadly missed by nine grandchildren, Neil, Jonathan, Kathleen, Douglas, Danielle, Matthew, Sarah, Katherine, and Abby, and one great grandson, Conner, and several nieces and nephews. In addition he also leaves many friends of Bill W. He was predeceased by his brother, John Scanlon. Funeral services are on Monday, February 9th at 8am from the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St. (Route 5) Holyoke followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9am at St. Patrick’s Church, 30 Main St., South Hadley. Committal services will follow at the Massachusetts Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1390 Main St., Agawam. Calling hours at the funeral home are on Sunday, February, 8th from 4 – 7pm.
