We are sad to announce the death of Dorothy Janice (Hamel) Bober, 81, of South Hadley, MA. She passed away at home on June 20, 2022, surrounded by her loved ones after a long illness. She was predeceased by her parents, Francis Hamel and the former Stasia A. Rogala of Chicopee. In 1963, she met Robert Walter Bober, and they wed in 1966, going on to have three children, Leslie M. Bober of San Francisco, CA, Suzanne J. Desautels of South Hadley, and John R. Bober of South Hadley. She also leaves behind her grandsons, Jack Desautels and Samuel Desautels of South Hadley; her sisters, Janice Chipman of South Carolina and Laurel Hamel of California and by her only niece, Claire Chipman of Pennsylvania. “Dottie” was born on January 24, 1941, in Holyoke, MA. After graduating from Chicopee High School in 1958, she began a secretarial career at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee. After raising her three children she returned to the workforce as an administrative assistant in the Financial Aid Office at Mount Holyoke College. After retiring in 1998, Dorothy enjoyed, bowling, reading, doing crossword puzzles, and spoiling her 2 grandsons as much as possible. She was a communicant of Our Lady of the Cross Church in Holyoke. Dorothy was a kind, caring, and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman who faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity. Dorothy was a source of inspiration to us all and she will be deeply missed by everyone whose lives she touched. Family and friends are invited to meet for visitation on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, from 4-7 p.m. at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. A Mass will be held in her honor at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2022, at Our Lady of the Cross Church, 23 Sycamore St., Holyoke, MA. Burial will be held in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery in South Hadley.
