A Beloved Son, Brother and Uncle, David Joseph Koontz, 60, of Chicopee and former longtime resident of Holyoke, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, May 30, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.
Born in Rochester, NY, on December 8, 1963, a son of Kenneth Sr. and Sylvia (Thibault) Koontz, he was raised and educated in Holyoke and enlisted in the US Army. Throughout his life he worked in warehousing and various laboring jobs.
David was loved by all who knew him. He had a huge heart and was an avid conversationalist. His sense of humor was unique and endearing. David was never too busy to lend a hand to anyone who needed his help.
David had many interests that included, spending time with family, karaoke, playing keno, building model trucks, watching sports as he was a dedicated fan of the Patriots, Red Sox and Celtics. He also loved spending time with his beloved cat, "Mosha".
He is survived by 2 children, Krystal and Erika Koontz. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Wanda Cote and her husband, Gerard, Lynn Koontz, Kenneth Koontz, Jr. and his wife, Lea, Tina Buel and her husband, David, Patricia Liardi, Jacqueline Ferrier, several nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also predeceased by his sister, Teresa Ventris and great niece, Olivia Koontz.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, June 20, for a period of visitation from 10 – 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Cross Church, Holy Cross Ave., Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in the church. Burial will follow immediately after the Mass at Notre Dame Cemetery in South Hadley. In lieu of flowers, donations in David’s name may be made to the American Heart Association or the MSPCA.
