David Francis Desroches, beloved husband of 51 years of Cheryle A. (Bisson) Desroches, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 4, at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield at the age of 68.
David was born on October 1, 1953, in Holyoke, MA, a son of George E. and Henrietta E. (Fournier) Desroches.
He was raised and educated in Holyoke, later attending Holyoke High School and Holyoke Trade, before residing in Chicopee for the past 30 years.
David was employed for over 17 years at Smith and Wesson in Springfield as a Hard Fitter, he also worked at Paper Box as a manager and was most recently employed at Home Depot in Westfield.
He was an NRA Instructor and was a marksman for Smith and Wesson’s shooting team.
David was a member of the Chicopee Sportsman’s Club and at one time maintained their website.
He had many hobbies that included fishing, hunting, motorcycling, and scuba diving.
Some of his fondest memories were Striper fishing on the Merrimack.
David leaves behind his loving wife, Cheryle, and daughters, Tina Malave and her husband Michael, and Amy Desroches all of Chicopee, grandchildren, Alisa and Matthew Malave, and Chayse Cosgrove, brothers, Danny Desroches of Chicopee and Donald Desroches and his partner, Cheryl, of Belmont, NH, numerous nieces and nephews, and close friend, Tom Sarna. He was predeceased by his son, Deric A. Desroches.
A celebration of life will be held for David on Friday, Sept. 30 from 4-7 p.m. at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA.
A Mass will be held on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, 1945 Northampton St., Holyoke. Reception to follow at at 1:30 p.m. at his niece, Renee’s home, 22 Bess Rd., Enfield, CT 06082. For online condolences please visit
