DANIEL W. MERRITT
1935 – 2009
HOLYOKE – Daniel W. "Doc" Merritt, 73, a fifty six year Holyoke resident, died at home surrounded by his beloved family on Tuesday, January 27, 2009. He was born in Frankton, Indiana on December 19, 1935, a son of the late Paul and Ruby (Davis) Merritt. He attended schools in Indiana and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1954 until 1958. He was previously employed at Universal Forest Products of Belchertown as a truck driver. He was the husband of the late Ann (Burnett) Merritt, who died in 2000. He is survived by two sons, Donald Guiel of Granby, MA and Robert Guiel of Holyoke, two daughters, Susan Deschaine and her husband Dean of North Adams, and Brigette Guiel of Granby, MA. He also leaves three brothers, Wilbur and his wife Irene of Chicopee, David and his wife Pat, and Larry and his wife Linda, of Indiana. He will be sadly missed by five grandchildren, Heath, Todd, Deana, Richard, and Melissa, five great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Sam, and his sister Cindy Merritt. Daniels entire family would like to extend their deepest gratitude for the kindness and friendship shown to him by his neighbors, the Derosier family, over the years. Calling hours are on Monday, February 2 from 4 – 8pm at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St. (Route 5) Holyoke. Friends are requested to meet for committal services on Tuesday, February 3 at 10am at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery Chapel, 1390 Main St. Agawam.
