Betty Ann Thompson

August 13, 1953 — November 17, 2024

It is with a broken heart that we announce the homegoing of Betty Ann (Davis) Thompson. Betty went to her heavenly home on Sunday, November 17, 2024. There are so many things you can say to describe Betty. She was a woman of principle who was quick witted, generous in spirit, and fierce in her protection of family. When Betty entered the room, everything would light up. And the room would be filled with good food, music, a whole lot of dancing, sarcasm, and laughter!

Betty had a love for family that was unconditional and unwavering. There was nothing she wouldn’t forgive, wouldn’t do, or anywhere she wouldn’t go for friends and family. She remembered everyone’s birthday, showed up for events, and thought of the small things that let you know you mattered. Betty’s love of family was equal to her love of shopping. If you did not find her baking cakes and cooking for a family gathering, you found her in the stores buying something for others. Betty had a special relationship with the kids in her life. Auntie Betty was the Easter bunny, birthday fairy, and Mrs. Claus rolled into one. She took time with them and put effort into making them feel seen and valued.

Born in Americus, Georgia, Betty grew up in Holyoke, Massachusetts. A graduate of Holyoke High School, she attended Holyoke Community College where she received her degree in early childhood education. A member of Bethlehem Baptist Community Church, she was active in the choir. She put her degree to work as the director of the church’s Early Childcare Program. After careers in banking and retail, she found her work home at the Holyoke School Department where she spent close to 40 years as an administrator.

Betty was a beloved daughter, mother, sister, aunt, co-worker, and friend. She is predeceased by her husband, Freddie L Thompson Jr; father, James Davis Sr.; and four-legged grandson, Cujae. She will be dearly missed and is survived by her daughter, Batreece Jett of Waterbury, CT; mother, Annie Mae Davis of South Hadley, MA; Aunt Johnnie Mae Hayes, Aliquippa PA. siblings Joyce (Thomas) Jeter of Aliquippa, PA; Cecelia Davis of Orlando, FL; Brenda (CW) Jones of Albany, GA; Marilyn (Terrence) Tyner, of Hartford, CT; James (Valarie) Davis Jr of Chicopee, MA.; Rene Davis, of Kents Hill, ME; and a countless number of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She touched the lives of so many and will have an everlasting memory in our heart.

Services will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Bethlehem Baptist Community Church, 304 Elm St., Holyoke, MA 01040. Visitation will be 10:00 am, with funeral service immediately following at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Forestdale West Cemetery in Holyoke. Messier Funeral Home is in charge of all professional services.
