Bertha Mae Cross

HOLYOKE - Bertha M. (Spillane) Cross, 83, passed away on April 1, 2015 at Wingate Healthcare of West Springfield. Bertha was born on February 12, 1932, a daughter of the late William and Gertrude (Meyer) Spillane. She was raised in the Willimansett section of Chicopee and attended Chicopee Public Schools. Bertha resided in Chicopee for many years, where she raised her family. Most recently, she lived in Granby and Holyoke. She was employed at AG Spaulding Company, Alamac Knitting Mills, Uniroyal Corporation, James River Graphics, State of MA DMR, and retired in 1994 from Cookson Graphics. She is predeceased by her husband, Anthony Cross in 2003; her son, Mark Cross in 2012; her two brothers, William and Wallace Spillane; and her two sisters, Evelyn Metras and Gertrude Brodeur. Bertha is survived by her son, Stephen Cross and his wife Deborah of West Springfield; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Cross of Holyoke; four grandchildren, Jessica Brunault, Matthew, Angela, and Alison Cross; and two great-grandchildren, Katelyn Brunault and Sadie Cross. The family would like to thank the staff of Wingate Healthcare of West Springfield for their care and compassion during Bertha’s illness. A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Bertha will be Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at 11AM in St. Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan St, Chicopee, followed by burial in St. Rose de Lima Cemetery, Section M. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Attn: Honors and Memorials, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
