1924 – 2009

Barbara Marie (Depping) Bernier, 85, of Holyoke, passed away on Monday October 26, 2009 at home.  Born in Belchertown and a resident of Holyoke for most of her life, she was the daughter of the late Claude and Isabelle (Picard) Depping.  Barbara was a graduate and valedictorian of St. Jerome High School Class of 1941.  A talented seamstress, she was employed by the former Real Baby Shop of Holyoke and the former Steiger’s department  stores in down town Springfield and at the Holyoke Mall. Barbara retired in 1986.  She loved quilting, needlepoint and crocheting. Barbara was a communicant of St. Jerome Church in Holyoke.  She leaves her husband of (63) years, Eugene A. Bernier; her son, John Bernier and his wife Karen of Holyoke; her daughter, Joanne Phillips of Pennsylvania; a brother Charles Depping of Virginia; (3)  sisters, June Byrnes of Holyoke, Claudia Shore of Pittsfield, Priscilla Murdock of North Carolina; (3) grandchildren and (3) great grandchildren. Funeral services will be on Friday, October 30, 2009 from the Messier Funeral Home 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke at 9 a.m., followed by the Liturgy of Christian Burial in St. Jerome Church at 10 a.m.  Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery, Holyoke.  Calling hours will be on Thursday, October 29, 2009 from 4 to 7 p.m. For Guest Book: messierfuneralhome.com
