Anibal Rivera Lugo, 61, beloved husband of 42 years, of Rosa J. (Ortiz) Rivera, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 6, 2023.
Anibal was born on September 2, 1961, in Comerio, Puerto Rico, a son of Jose Salvador Rivera and Agueda Lugo.
He was raised and educated in Puerto Rico, before residing in Holyoke for over forty years.
Anibal was most recently employed as a security guard, for over twelve years, at Liberty Security in West Springfield.
He was a longtime parishioner at St. Jerome Church in Holyoke.
Anibal was a hard worker and great provider for his family. He was blessed with a good sense of humor.
Anibal had many interests, he enjoyed cooking, music, playing dominoes and spending time with family and friends.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Rosa “Judy”, daughters, Amy Piedra and her husband, Omar all of Holyoke, Janet Colón and her husband, Carlos of Springfield, son, Anibal Frank Rivera of Holyoke, five cherished grandchildren, Aliyah, Arianna, Giselle, Christian, and Jonathan, brother, Felix Rivera and his wife, Onaida, of Holyoke, four nieces, Yanira, Gladys, Lourdes, and Vanessa, one nephew, Felix Jr and numerous cousins, extended family members, as well as many close friends.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his three brothers, Jose Salvador Jr., Osvaldo, and Awildo.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Thursday, August 10, for visitation for Anibal, from 5 – 7 pm at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke.
Anibal’s funeral will be held on Friday, August 11, beginning at the funeral home at 8:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Jerome Church, 169 Hampden St., Holyoke. Committal prayers and burial will follow immediately after the Mass at St. Jerome Cemetery.
