Obituary

Albert George Lehmann

1943-2026

Southampton – Albert George Lehmann, 83, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully at his assisted living home in Southampton on May 18, 2026. Albert was born in Greenfield, MA on April 7, 1943, son of Albert E. and Martha L. (Karske) Lehman.

Albert was a 1961 graduate of Holyoke High School and received his associates degree in Audio Engineering from the Cambridge School of Broadcasting in 1962. He studied broadcasting, announcing, broadcast journalism, and television production. He completed his internship at WGBH Boston and WHDH Studios.

Albert began his storied career as an on-air announcer and audio engineer at WREB Radio from 1962-1969. During this time he was also acting as manager of the Blue Denims Rock band.

Reflecting on his entire career, Albert will be most remembered as the voice of WWLP TV22, as the chief announcer for much of the 40 years he was employed there. Largely considered an engineering “Jack of all things”, Albert’s many contributions to the growth of TV22 are still evident to this day.

Albert was an active member and trustee of the 2nd Congregational Church in Holyoke for many years and was on the City of Holyoke’s Handicap Advisory Board. He was also a horologist who loved clock repair and maintained the City of Holyoke’s City Hall Clock Tower for decades.

He is survived by his daughter, Jessica McGarvey of Georgia and her husband Craig of Georgia and by his son, Peter E. Lehmann of Maine and his partner Katie Hildermann of Maine, and by his four grandchildren, Jacob Hildermann, Zachary McGarvey, Eva Rose and Josephine McGarvey.

All are invited to meet for calling hours on Saturday May 30, 2026, from 9:30 am to 11:00 am at the Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA followed by at 11:00 am service in the funeral home. Burial will be private for the family at a later date.
