Tribute SYLVIA G. (THIBAULT) KOONTZ 1936-2018 HOLYOKE- Sylvia (Thibault) Koontz, 82, of Holyoke, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Mt. Saint Vincent Care Center with her loving family by her side. She was born in Mt. Louis, Quebec, Canada on April 30, 1936, a daughter of the late Joseph and Aldea (Crevier) Thibault. After moving to Massachusetts, she began working as a supply clerk at Westover Air Force Base, where she soon met her husband Kenneth Koontz Sr. They were married on November 17, 1956, and he predeceased her in 2014. Sylvia had many enjoyments, including reading, playing guitar, sewing, swimming, bowling, watching Westerns and rooting for the Patriots. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was predeceased by her daughter Teresa Ventris in 2011 and her great-granddaughter Olivia Koontz in 2014. She will be dearly missed by her children, Wanda Cote and her husband Gerard; Lynn Koontz; Kenneth Koontz Jr. and his wife Lea; David Koontz; Tina Buel and her husband David; Patricia Liardi; Jacqueline Ferrier; her grandchildren, Kenneth III, Michelle, Krystal, Erica, Jessica, Ryan, Chelsea, Zachary, and Joe, as well as 9 great-grandchildren. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 4-7PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke. Her funeral will begin at 8:15AM on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from Messier’s with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10AM in Our Lady of the Cross Church, Holy Cross Ave., Holyoke. The burial will be private. Memorial donations in Sylvia’s name may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 260 Cochituate Rd. #200, Framingham, MA 01701, or the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 264 Cottage St., Springfield, MA 01104.
