Tribute South Hadley - Robert P. Laverdiere, 90, passed away peacefully, on April 15, 2020, after a brief illness. He was born in Holyoke, on March 17, 1930, a son of the late Arthur and Laura (Phaneuf) Laverdiere. Bob was a graduate of Rosary High School and Holyoke Jr. College. He also attended Our Lady of LaSalette seminary in Enfield, NH. Bob was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served proudly during the Korean War, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant, and serving as a General's aid. Bob was a bookkeeper for the Yankee Pedlar Inn and Restaurant and the Winfield Hat Co., both in Holyoke, prior to moving to California, where he worked for over 30 years with Matson Steamship Co., in Long Beach. After his retirement, he returned to Western Mass to be with family and friends. Bob was recently predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years, Barbara J. (Dryzgula) Laverdiere, whom he married on October 2, 1965 at the Immaculate Conception Church, in Holyoke. Together they enjoyed spending time with family and close friends both locally in South Hadley and at their homes in Garden Grove, CA, and Clearwater, FL. Bob was a member of the K of C 4th degree council #4044 and the Elks BOPE #902. Among his interests was his love for music which he shared with others as a member of barber shop singers and St. Polycarp Church Choir in California, as well as the choirs of the Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke, St. Anne's Church in Chicopee, St. Cecelia Church in Clearwater, Florida, and the Dunedin Community Chorus, also in Florida, where he and Barbara had a winter home. He was a devoted staff member of the Messier Funeral Home in Holyoke and Moss Feaster Funeral Home in Florida for many years. Bob was also predeceased by two brothers, Hector Laverdiere of Granby and Maurice Laverdiere of Holyoke. Bob will be dearly missed by his beloved sisters and his dedicated nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He is survived by his sisters Jeanette Boczon of Granby and Lillian (William) Bacon of Clearwater, FL. and Westfield, MA, as well as his nieces and nephews, James (Ellen) McGillicuddy, John McGillicuddy, both of Holyoke, Michael McGillicuddy of Westfield, Christine Lucier of Chicopee, Marc (Christine) Laverdiere of Chicopee, Diane (Steve) Wolf of Granby, Michael (Joanne) Laverdiere of Orleans, Jean Deforge of Chicopee, Nancy Laverdiere of Easthampton, Laura (Richard) Burbine of Portsmouth, N.H., and Maurice Laverdiere of Denver, CO. Funeral Services will be held privately. His burial will take place in the Precious Blood Cemetery, South Hadley. A Memorial Mass will be held for Bob at a later date.
