HOLYOKE- Richard C. Whiting, 93, died Wednesday, November 18, 2015 at his home. He was born in Holyoke the son of Mae Hortense Cooley and Philip Charles Whiting. He graduated from the Choate School and Williams College Class of 1945. He served as junior officer on PT Boat 542, Squadron 37 in the Pacific during WWII, being stationed in Okinawa. He was the former President of Whiting Oil Corp. founded by his great grandfather William Bailey Whiting in 1870. He served as President of The New England Fuel Institute, Treasurer of The Holyoke Visiting Nurse Association, member and trustee of United Congregational Church for many years and President of the Board of Trustees of the Forestdale Cemetery Association. He leaves his wife of 66 years the former Betsy Mackintosh of Holyoke and three children, Richard C. Whiting Jr and his wife Jennifer of Florence, MA; Ann Weed and her husband Frank of Jupiter, FL and Keren Whiting of Easthampton, NY. He was predeceased by three siblings, Mary Dodd of W. Hartford, Ct; Phyllis Coombs of New London, NH and Philip C. Whiting Jr of Holyoke. He leaves six grandchildren; Alex, Dylan and Sam Whiting and Sophie, Ana and Louisa Weed. He also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to give a special thanks to Michelle Ferron for the loving care she gave Dick this past year. A public memorial service and celebration of Dick�s life will be held in the Skinner Memorial Chapel at The United Congregational Church, 395 High St., Holyoke, MA 01040 on Monday, December 21, 2015 at 11AM.
