    Helen T. (Irwin) Miles

    July 23, 1926 - March 25, 2022

    Tribute Helen T. (Irwin) Miles, beloved wife of 67 years of Gideon T. Miles Jr., who predeceased her in 2016, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at Holyoke Medical Center at the age of 95. Born in Holyoke, a daughter of Joseph and Nora (Sugrue) Irwin, she was educated in St. Jerome Schools and was a graduate of St. Jerome High School in 1944. Helen was employed in The Billing Department of the former Holyoke Wire and Cable Corp., and the Mount Tom Box Company before joining the Holyoke Water Works where she was a Senior Clerk for eighteen years, before retiring in 1991. She was a member and director of the American Association of Retired Persons, Holyoke Chapter #1524. Helen was also a member and treasurer of the Emblem Club, associated with the Holyoke Lodge of Elks #902. She was a strong going church lady who was a parishioner of Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke for many years. Helen leaves her two sons, Edward G. Miles of Holyoke and Steven T. Miles, Sr. and his wife, Cindy of Burlington, CT, two grandsons, Steven T. Miles, Jr. and Daniel J. Miles, and niece, Laurel Smith Lafford (Llewellyn) of New York and her son Ryan O’Donnell, two special people in her life, Marc Gonneville from the House of Marc Beauty Salon in Chicopee and her longtime mail handler, Mark Lamagdeleine, who she affectionately said were like sons to her. There were also many neighbors and friends who made her life better. In addition to her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her sister, Ann Bresnahan. Helen’s funeral will be held on Friday, April 1, beginning at 9 a.m. from Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Holyoke. Burial will be held at Forestdale Cemetery in Holyoke. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held on Thursday, March 31, from 4-7 p.m. Memorial contributions in Helen’s name may be made to Blessed Sacrament School, 1945 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
