    George Rios

    February 5, 1965 - April 30, 2015

George Lefty Rios, 50, a gentleman, husband, father, grandfather and true friend was called home after injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on Route 5 in Holyoke. He was born in Bronx, NY on February 5, 1965 a son of George L. Rios and Millie Rios of Seymour, Ct. Lefty lived his life enjoying time with his family and friends and could easily strike up a conversation with a complete stranger who became a friend. He was a longtime employee of Stop & Shop, Inc., having worked in Holyoke, Greenfield, East Longmeadow and Northampton. Most recently, Lefty was working in Northampton as a Department Lead with a promotion expected shortly. He is married to his beloved friend and wife of 28 years, Norma (Jimenez) Rios of Holyoke and always treated her like it was their first date. A family man who loved watching the game with his children who he was extremely proud of, Lefty will be deeply missed by his kids; Emily Rios, Cyrus Rios, Giovanni Rios, Adam Byrd, Christopher Mendez, Miguel Mendez and Kenneth Mendez. He also leaves his 7 grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends as well as his colleagues. Lefty is survived by his 3 siblings; his brother Ricky Rios and his sisters Millie Mendez and Annette Rios. Lefty will have visiting hours on Tuesday, May 5, 2015 from 4-8PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. A funeral service will begin on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at 9:30AM from the funeral home and be followed by the church service at 11AM in Restauracion Emanuel Church, 237 Chestnut St., Holyoke, MA 01040. The burial will be in Forestdale Cemetery, Holyoke. In lieu of flowers, donations in kind may be made to the funeral home in Leftys name.
