South Hadley- Bruce P. Gelinas, 65, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2016. He was born in Holyoke on July 14, 1951, a son of the late Roger and Hazel (Leeming) Gelinas. He graduated Holyoke Catholic High School, class of 1969, and proudly joined the U.S. Air Force, serving during the Vietnam War. Bruce was committed to serving his community on the Holyoke Police force for 30 years. Although Bruce was a fairly private gentleman he loved being a police officer, spending time with his colleagues, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He will be missed by all who knew him. Bruce is survived by his brother in-law, Al Lefebvre of South Hadley; his niece Kristen Lefebvre Stafford and her husband Chris of Ijamsville, Maryland; and a nephew Robert Lefebvre of South Hadley. He also leaves his two grandnieces Reese and Harper Stafford of Ijamsville, Maryland. He was predeceased by his sister, Darlene M. Lefebvre, and brother, Robert Gelinas. Life Celebration hours will be held Tuesday, September 6, 2016, from 4-7PM at Messier Funeral Home, 1944 Northampton St., Holyoke, MA 01040. Friends and family are asked to gather on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, for a funeral home service at 11:15AM. The burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main St. Agawam, MA 01001.
