BRUCE PHILLIP AMBUTER August 18, 1946 – May 23, 2022 Bruce Ambuter, son of William and Irma Ambuter, unexpectedly passed away at Holyoke Hospital on May 23, 2022. He is survived by his wife, Betsy Ambuter; his adult child, Ryan Hollins Ambuter; granddaughter, Quincy; stepsons Buran and Ashavan Doyon; nephews and nieces; cousins; and long-time associates and friends. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held in August (details forthcoming). Bruce grew up in Brookline, MA, earned engineering degrees from Tufts University, and lived most of his adult life on Cape Cod. He had a 50 year career in electronics where he pioneered in the design of ocean-bottom seismometry, working first at MIT and then at the US Geological Survey. He was a Professional Electrical and Electronic Design Engineer who started his own company, Ambuter Associates, that he ran successfully for decades. His design work included ocean antennas used for early storm detection, equipment for minimizing rust in oil tanks, and seismic instruments used to monitor earthquake tremors. He consulted on complex issues of power and forensic engineering. Bruce was an accomplished musician (woodwinds) and loved listening to Sha Na Na and music from the big band era. He could tell you the name of just about any 50s or 60s song after hearing the first few notes. A distance runner for most of his adult life, he could often be seen running through Monument Beach and the surrounding villages. Bruce was also an expert in radio technology and had an impressive radio collection from the early 1920s to early 1950s that illustrates the evolution of this technology. Bruce and Betsy recently moved to Holyoke, Massachusetts to be closer to their children and grandchildren. His family is appreciative of the effort by the Holyoke Emergency Squad and Hospital personnel to try and save his life.
